Figure 5 - B cell differentiation

The B cell differentiation from the hematopoietic stem cell to the mature B cell, in the bone marrow, is antigen independent. The final differentiation stages, from the mature B cell to the plasma cell and memory B cell, in the germinal centers of the secondary lymphoid organs, is antigen dependent, and generally requires a cooperation between B and T cells.
